Wordpress is the world's most popular blogging platform. One of the reasons for this is because it's free and open-source. Open source means that the code from which it is made of is free for anyone to download and modify. Because of this, anyone can contribute, either by improving the system itself, or by making all sorts of plugins for it.
A blog is a great way to keep a diary, especially for the modern person, who's more accustomed to typing than writing. However, corporate blogs are also a growing trend. Many large companies such as Dell, HP and IBM have corporate blogs. They are great both as a replacement for mailing lists and for establishing and maintaining public relations. Anyway you look at it, a blog can only benefit your company.
